Tuning a v c r to a samsungg 46inch flatscreen?

is it possible to tune in all the channels from a modern flatscreen t v with built in freeview to a v c r. i've tried but it's not working. the v c r will play videos on the big screen, it also scans for the channels but only 1 to 5 seem to show through the scan. i can also change the channels on the big screen but alas ---only 1 to five /////// does the v c r which is a DURABRAND AD 214 BD have the capability to perform this function ??????? very curious
