Do the rich pay more in taxes than they should?

In the last 30 years the wealthiest 10% in the U.S. have increased their wealth by 455% while the middle cl ( after putting the wife to work ) has lost 5-10% of their aggregate wealth. So if the rich pay soooo much in taxes how do they manage to get soooo much richer than everybody else? By the way after putting the wife to work, does this explain why the U.S. slipped from 1st to 77th in literacy in the same period? Hmmmm.
